Covid Reflections During the Holidays

With 2020 almost over and 2021 just a week away, I want to take a moment to wish you a warm holiday from our home to yours.

As I reflect upon 2020, I realize that although a lot of people might think 2020 has been a curse, I feel that it has also brought many blessings. I will admit that like most of you, it had disrupted our lives too. We had forgone travel which we love to do as a family. We had to learn to be teachers to our kids and with that, to appreciate even more the work that teachers do.

We stayed home, home-schooled, cooked more. But it also allowed us to appreciate the simple things, like watching the sunset, and our backyard, which has become our “escape”. We have our chickens, succulents, miniature rabbit and now two new guinea pigs, and each other to keep us busy.

With virtual appointments replacing in-person appointments, I spent more time with my kids, and more time becoming better as a daughter, mother, insurance agent, businesswoman, and leader. We as a family, learned to appreciate one another more, to live fully and simply despite the circumstances. And maybe this is a valuable lesson we will carry with us for the rest of our lives. That will strengthen us and prepare us for any other adversary that will happen in our lives.

When one door closes, another opens. And so, many of us have learned to pivot, to “make it work”, to be patient as we wait this out, to rethink the way we do things, our shopping, our treatment of one another, to filter through many things and know what really matters most. To protect ourselves and the people we care about from the coronavirus.

Somebody had said, “Things will never be the same, there will always be a precovid and a postcovid time.” Maybe. But I hope that we will carry with us the things we learned from this and become stronger, and better as a person, a family, a community, a nation.

Thank you for being with me on this journey, and I look forward to another year with you. I hope to see your warm, happy faces very soon. But for now, let me send you virtual hugs! Happy Holidays and a Great 2021 to you and your families! Let’s stay hopeful. Stay strong and healthy!

Warmly,
